Tucker Hubcaps

Postby Tom » Fri Dec 23, 2005 11:38 am

Hi,
I was looking at the pictures of all all the Tucker on the site and noticed that 1025 has differant hub caps than most are those actual Tucker hubcaps? Ive also heard that the kaiser fraizer had the exact same hub caps as the Tucker not for sure what year though is this true or not? If so what year kaiser was it? And is it possible that 1025 has these kaiser hub caps on it? The other question is how do the Tucker hubcaps mount onto the rim? Is it some sort of spring steel like some cars?

There were two different style of Tucker hubcaps produced. One had the Tucker logo on them, the other had the Tucker family crest (the same as used in the horn button) in the center. I believe that the ones with the crests are referred to as "Kaisers" and I don't remember how they came by that name. As I recall, the reason for the two different styles (and it's not simply 1025 that has that style of hubcap) is that they couldn't make up their mind as to which design they were going to go with. Of course, had the cars gone into production, they might have used one for the "stripper" models and one for the "deluxe" models.

The hubcaps were spring steel like most hubcaps of the era.

Tucker Hub Caps

Postby Guest » Sat Dec 24, 2005 4:59 am

The hub caps are different on 1025 due to the fact that the previous owner could not find the original ones to put on the car. I believe that the ones on the car were originally Oldsmobile. The first 25 Tucker's Serial Number 1001 through 1025 had hub caps with slots cut in them to allow for cooling of the disk brakes that Tucker had proposed to put on the car. However when they dropped that idea, the last 25 cars, that is Serial Number 1026 through 1050 had the hub caps with the Tucker emblem on them. I do not know who made these hub caps but Tucker employees were the ones who cut the slots in the early hub caps.

I remember clipping out the obituary of a guy and in the article, it mentioned that he made the Tucker hubcaps. Of course I cannot find it anywhere right now, but I believe his last name was Kahn, and of course that's the whole reason I read the obituary to begin with.

I'll track that down after Christmas.
